The Manhattan City Commission recently voted 4-0 to annex land for the future development of Scorpion Biological Services. Scorpion will purchase the land after it is annexed. The new facility is planned to be more than 500,000 square feet and employ more than 500 people. The Pottawatomie County Commission previously voted 3-0 to approve the annexation.
The land is about 50 acres situated on the north side of Highway 24 and east side of Excel Road. The city will also build a new fire station somewhere in the Green Valley Area to provide adequate fire protection services to the new $650 million facility. The City of Manhattan has agreed to support the construction through Industrial Revenue Bonds and other tax incentives.
