In its recently published “2022 Local Agenda“, the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce emphasized, among other things, the annexation of what it calls the “Blue Township Urban Growth Area” as a key part of its “Growth Initiatives.” While the Chamber specifically mentions property owners requesting annexation, it also calls for “Island Annexation”. This type of annexation has the effect of ensuring that incorporation as a city never becomes an option for the residents of Green Valley, making annexation of the remainder of the area inevitable.
The Green Valley Kansas Foundation opposes continued island annexation or any annexation east of the current island at Heritage Square because it denies the residents of Green Valley any future options for self-governance.
