As is required every year, the Blue Township Board recently submitted its draft 2023 budget to Pottawatomie County. It’s worth nothing that this budget includes $181,620 in unspecified Capital Improvements for the current year and $45,000 in unspecified Capital Improvements for the next year. Our best assumption is that the lion’s share of this is the walking bridge planned for the west side of Green Valley Road near Elk Creek Road.
Blue Township currently assesses 1.405 mills for property tax and will have a 1.259 mill Revenue Neutral Rate for 2023. This means that Blue Township will either have to reduce its mill levy or send notifications and hold a public hearing to maintain the current mill levy under Senate Bill 13, written by Senator Caryn Tyson and passed by the Kansas Legislature last year.
